1933-1936. Hutchison, Isobel Wylie, of Carlowrie,
Scotland, during a trip to Yukon, Nome and the Arctic Coast in June-August
1933 collected 228 species of plants, now in Kew. The collection
was determined by »the Director (at Kew) and his assistants»
and is published as Appendix 2 to Miss HUTCHISON’s book »North
to the Rime-Ringed Sun» (London & Glasgow 1934). She also
published paper »Plant hunting in Alaska» in Kew. Bull. Misc.
Inf. 1934. In 1936 Miss HUTCHISON undertook a journey to the
Aleutian Islands and visited Seward (Lost Lake Trail, Mt Marathon), Kodiak
(Pillar Mt., Mill Bay, Woody I., Old Harbour), Sand Pt, Unalaska, Atka,
Amchitka, Kiska and Attu. The specimens, which belong to Brit. Mus.,
were determined by the present author and published as Appendix 2 to Miss
HUTCHISON’S book »Stepping Stones from Alaska to Asia»
(London & Glasgow 1937).
1933-1940. Looff,
Ethel, obtained during these years collections at Alitok, Kodiak
I. Specimens in Nat. Herb., Washington, and in Gray Herb.
On some of the labels the collector is given as Mrs. HENRY B. LOOFF.
I do not know whether this refers to the same person.
1934. Went,
Frits Warlnolt, Dr., Professor of Plant Physiology at Inst. of
Techn., Pasadena, obtained a collection of plants during a journey to
Alaska. Sets are preserved in Univ. Calif., in Lund and probably
in several other herbaria. The following places were visited:
July 7 Gravina I. (Wards Cove); July 8 Ketchikan, Cordova, Chitina; July
18 Copper Center; July 25 McCallum's; July 28 Paxon's; July 30 Fairbanks;
July 31 Mt McKinley Park, Seward; Aug. 3 Ketchikan; Aug. 4 Deer Mt, Ketchikan.
1934. Flock,
Claude, collected at Chignik in July 1934. Specimens in
Stanford Univ.
1934. Rogers,
Harold E. In Arnold Arboretum are some few specimens of
Salix with his name on the labels.
1935. Rudd,
J., a Norwegian employed at the Akutan Whaling Station, obtained
a collection of plants on Akutan I. Specimens in Univ. of Washington.
1935. Ito,
F. T., collected in July at Dillingham. Specimens in Univ.
of Washington.
1935. Martel,
Donald, collected at the Shumagin Islands, especially at Mist
Harbour in May and August. June 9 he collected at Dillingham
and Nushagak and Aug. 5 at Fox Bay (near Stepovak Bay).
