In 1916 plants were collected
at Stikine R., where the expedition spent eleven days, at Glacier Bay
eleven days and at Taku Glacier and Mendenhall Glacier seven days.
In 1921 Juneau, Glacier Bay
and Sum Dum Bay were visited. In 1929 Glacier Bay was studied July
9-24 as well as Davidson Glacier (Lynn Canal), Holtham Bay and Stikine
R. In 1935 Glacier Bay and Prince William Sd (Harriman Fiord, College
Fiord, Columbia Bay) were investigated.
1916-1917. Harrington,
George L., of the U. S. Geol. Survey, collected about 275 specimens,
now in Nat. Herb., Washington, in the lower Yukon and Kuskokwim valleys.
The following places were visited: June 1, 1916 Lower Yukon Pilot
Station; June 21 18 miles up Anvik R.; July 10 60 miles up Bonazila R.;
July 12 80 miles up Bonazila R.; July 20 Stujahook R.; Aug. 14 Marshall;
July 4, 1917 Tolstoi; July 24-26 Holy Cross; Aug. 15 Haycock; July 9,
1919 Security Cove Kuskokwim; July 20 Good News Bay; July 27 Barnum Creek,
Good News Bay; Aug. 16 Cripple Creek, Kuskokwim R.
1916. Malte,
Malte Oskar, curator of the Nat. Herb. in Ottawa, born in Sweden,
obtained a collection, now in Ottawa, at Yukon valley. He visited
Dawson Aug. 7 and White Pass Aug. 24.
1916. Gehrman,
Ella, obtained a small collection, now preserved in Calif. Acad.
Sc., around Teller.
1916. Hanna,
C. Dallas, curator of Palaeontology at the Calif. Acad. of Sc.,
collected about 100 specimens on St. Matthew I. on July 8-13, 1916.
He also obtained a collection of plants on the Pribilof Is, where he worked
for several years. Specimens in Calif. Acad.
1917. Cairnes,
C. E., obtained a small collection at Miller Creek lat. 64°
00' long. 140° 50' W., in June 1917.
1917-1940. Thornton,
Charles W., attorney at Nome. made extensive collections at Seward
Penins., chiefly around Nome. Specimens in his own herbarium and
at Nat. Herb., Washington. Part of the specimens were published
by PORSILD in his »Contribution to the flora of Alaska» (Rhodora
41, 1939).
