1881-83. Murdock,
John, took part in the Internat. Polar Exp. to Pt Barrow under
Lieut. RAY; collected about 75 specimens in the vicinity of Pt Barrow.
The collection was determined by Dr. ASA GRAY, who also published a list
of the species (Internat. Polar exp. to Pt Barrow, Report, 1884). They
are now in Nat. Herb., Washington.
1882. Oldmixon,
George Scott, surgeon, made a small collection around Pt. Barrow,
which is now in Nat. Herb., Washington, and in Field Mus.
1883. Meehan,
Thomas, collected about 275 species in S.E. Alaska. Specimens
in Acad. of Nat. Sc. Philadelphia, duplicates in Nat. Herb., Washington.
He published a list of his collections in Proc. Acad. Nat. Sc. Philad.
1884. The following places were visited: Wrangell, Sitka, Juneau, Killisnoo,
Pyramid Harbour. Bartlett Bay, Muir Glacier and Chilkoot.
1883. Schwatka,
Frederick, lieutenant, made a small collection of plants during
a military reconnaissance of the Yukon R. According to a note in Bot.
Gaz. 9 (1884) p. 65 they were determined by SERENO WATSON. A report of
the expedition was published in 48th Congr. 2nd sess., Senate Ex. doc.
No 2 (1885).
1883. Hayes,
Charles Willard, of the U. S. Geol. Survey, accompanied SCHWATKA,
collected a few cryptogamic plants, listed by Miss CUMMINGS in an article
on the expedition in Nat. Geogr. Mag. 4 (1892).
1883. Rudkin,
J. Albert, collected 31 species about Mt St. Elias, which are
preserved in New York Bot. Gard. A list of the species was published by
BRITTON (Bull. Torr. Club 11, 1884).
